Peer Review Process & Author Fees

Peer Review Process

The review process for submissions involves the “double blind peer reviewevaluation by three expert readers. In most cases, we are able to reach a final decision regarding publication within one months. Essays typically appear in print one to three months after they are accepted.

JELL uses “double-blind” peer review throughout the whole review process. The Editor-in-Chief shall nominate 3 reviewers for each submitted paper. The reviewers of the paper will not know the identity of the author, and the author will not know the identity of the reviewer. Authors are ensured to prepare the manuscripts in the following ways when submitting to JELL:

1. Submit the Title Page containing the Authors details and Blinded Manuscript with no author details as 2 separate files.

2. In the Title Page, please include the title, authors' names and affiliations, and e-mail address.

3. Use the third person to refer to work the Authors have previously undertaken and cite papers published by the Author in the text as follows: ‘[Anonymous, 2019]’. Remove references to funding sources and do not include acknowledgments.

Papers submitted may be reviewed any time of the year and will be sent to three reviewers, including international scholars of respective expertise. Decision on the manuscript will be made based upon the following three categories: 1) ‘Publish with revision’ 2) ‘Revise and submit for reevaluation’ 3) ‘Reject’.

The criteria for the reevaluation is the same as the first evaluation. The author will be informed of the decision for publication not more than 30 days of submission. Articles submitted for reevaluation take longer for the decision.

Author Pays

The author should pay the reviewing processing fee of ̛̛₩30,000 Korean Won when s/he submits an article. When a submission is accepted to be published, the author is responsible for the publication fee. The publication fee is ₩250,000 Korean Won in general and ₩400,000 Korean Won if the article receives financial support from any source. Authors of essays published in the journal receive two complimentary copies of the issue in which their work appears along with 15 prints of their articles.
